🫠 The messy middle

The messy middle.

I've sat for 30 minutes trying to figure out how to start my newsletter this week. Usually the words flow to me really easily, but for some reason it's feeling a bit trickier than usual. (I'm still within my time blocked hour for this task though, haha!!). I like to share, and I typically share openly with all and everyone - including you Reader. (I can remember my sister, Alison, once coming to Glasgow to visit, and I had to run an errand at the Post Office. The guy at the counter asked how the house move was going and a few other things that I forget. Alison failed to understand why the guy knew so much about my personal life! But that's just me...). I recognise however that it's not always in my best interests to share so openly and honestly, and I'm trying to find some balance in this. But I also want to be authentic (as ick as that sounds!) and I think it's helpful to see that it's not always easy as an entrepreneur / single mum / human. There are lots of challenges that I'm working through in my personal life, and invariably it ripples through into my business life. I think that's true whether you work for yourself or not. The last few weeks have been particularly tough, but I know I can do hard things and I'm still here. Maybe just not standing as strong as I normally do, and that's ok.

Oh, and lastly - I'm excited to bring a new service offering to the table. I'm going to be providing project management consultancy for small business owners and will be beta testing my new offer with three individuals this month (my corporate background is project management, so it seems natural that this would become something I offer in this space too). If you would like help to set-up a project management tool, to talk through your systems and processes or help to plan out your next project (maybe a big event, or a product/service launch) please do give me a shout.

I have this love/hate relationship with technology. I spend too much time on screens for my liking, but as a single parent and solopreneur being on my phone is my way of connecting with other adults... and my laptop is needed for my business.

It's very easy to get caught in a scroll hole on social media, or spend more time that you intended on Netflix (hit me up with any movie recommendations; this weekend I've got some time carved out for popcorn and a film!),

But it's not all doom and gloom. We can leverage technology to save time too. Have a peek at these blog posts for more >>>

Other things I'm loving right now >>>

I missed my run at the weekend, and did initially jump into a negative space where I tried to beat myself up for not getting out there... but managed to shift this and move instead into compassion. I needed the rest, and the weather was miserable! But what I have been loving is the Nike run club app which gives me access to guided runs from Nike coaches. There is even a guided run called 'Don't Wanna Run, Run'. I've found that having someone chatting in my ear, with words of encouragement, is actually rather helpful and does keep me feeling good. It's a goal of mine to get back to running a 10k comfortably... at the moment I'm at 3-4k (although I did 6k on Wednesday morning this week!). I've been sharing my runs on Instagram stories to help keep me accountable.

Let me know what goals you're working towards.

Best,
